Work-life balance according to Caroline Bergeron

Strategies for maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life demands.

During a pillow talk with my partner of 27 years, he mentioned being worried about me. He said, "I don't know if you realize, but you're a workaholic. You've never worked so much, it's 7 days a week."

And he was right. As a solopreneur , I put enormous pressure on myself to achieve the results I want, to not disappoint, to prove to all those who didn't believe in me that I could do it... In short, I was constantly in the performance and execution, because everything rests on my shoulders.

A wake-up call that got me thinking about my life balance management. And I know I'm not alone in this. Work-life balance is a major challenge for entrepreneurs. Between increasing professional demands and family responsibilities, it can be difficult to find the right balance.

However, maintaining this balance is crucial for long-term well-being and success if I don't want to burn out and, more importantly, lose the most important people in my life.

Here are five effective strategies I've since implemented to help me navigate my professional and personal life. I'm happy to share them with you today.

1. Set clear boundaries

One of the first steps to maintaining a healthy balance is establishing clear boundaries between work and personal life. So, I set specific working hours for myself and try to stick to them as much as possible.

I also inform people with whom I have professional relationships of my availability to minimize interruptions during my personal time.

This helps me create a mental separation between the two spheres and, above all, protects me from possible burnout.

2. Prioritize essential tasks

I realized that I tend to try to do everything on my own. However, it's crucial to prioritize essential tasks and delegate responsibilities when possible.

I now use project management tools to organize and track tasks between myself and my colleagues. This allows me to stay focused on the most important activities and frees up time for the personal aspects of my life.

3. Practice disconnection

Technology can be a great productivity tool, but it can also be a constant distraction. So I practice disconnecting by limiting my use of electronic devices during my personal time. No cell phone, TV, or computer! Set specific times to check your work emails and messages, and avoid responding to them outside of work hours. This will help you be more present in your personal life and reduce stress.

I often tell myself that I'm not saving lives and that unless there's a national emergency, it can wait until tomorrow or the following Monday.

4. Adopt a wellness routine

Physical and mental well-being are essential for maintaining a healthy balance. Incorporate wellness activities into your daily routine, such as exercise, meditation, or reading. Take time to relax and recharge. This will allow you to be more productive and focused while you work.

5. Value quality time

It's easy to get caught up in work commitments, but it's crucial to value quality time with your loved ones. The most important thing I have is my family and friends.

So I encourage you to plan activities with your family and friends and make them a priority. These precious moments strengthen personal connections and remind you of the importance of life outside of work.

In conclusion on work-life balance

Finding a work-life balance is no easy task, especially for entrepreneurs. However, by implementing these 5 strategies, you can create an environment where you can thrive professionally while still enjoying your personal life.

Remember that balance is an ongoing process that requires attention and adjustment. Take care of yourself and remember that success is measured not only by your professional achievements, but also by your happiness and overall well-being.
